1293 c. to Les.{Ivan A. Leslie} c. to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Clm.{D. D. Clapham} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}1/JH. 13th. January. 1940. The Armstrong's Patents Co.Ltd., Eastgate, Beverley, YORKS. For the attention of Mr. Armstrong. Dear Sir, Our Mr. Leslie has passed on to the writer your letters of 1st. and 8th. inst. concerning the damper with 1 1/4 pistons which we are testing. We have now completed our tests and we enclose diagrams of load against stroke. No.1 was obtained from one of our double piston type with aluminium casing and No.2 from your damper. In both cases no intentional leak was provided. These diagrams show clearly the characteristic of which we complain. As our testing rig can accommodate only dampers of one hand our tests have been confined to one of the pairs you sent us, and we are returning this one to you under separate cover. We suggest that you should fit to this damper a pair of pistons with not more than 0.001 diametral clearance, and in addition a spare pair of pistons and links with 0.002 clearance as at present but with pistons rings. We can then compare both these alterations. Cont'd.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} | ||
