RE SIDE WHEEL CARRIERS. JAPAN III.

The mounting of the engine, at present intended for Japan III, we understand to be that known as "Diamond Mounting". In this case the frame member is not prevented from turning over by the engine foot.

On I8.G.4. you have this mounting. The dash has a small sheet steel bracket to enable it to do what it can to keep the side channel from twisting. We would like to know whether the side wheel carrier dithers when in use on this car, and whether a wheel was on the side during the 10.000 miles test.

We would also like you to tell us the effect of removing the steel bracket at the foot of the dash, so producing the equivalent effect of the single cast foot on the dash, which has been asked for by Derby on the grounds of cheapness.

We notice also that after the 25th, chassis in "R" Series there is an engine foot which will not assist in holding the side channel from twisting. We presume that some of these cars are in the hands of customers. Has any trouble been experienced with these side wheel carriers?

At the moment we are hurrying to complete the dashboard of Japan III. and are anxious to know whether it is really necessary to go to much expense to so tie it to the side channel to resist the twisting action of the side wheel carrier.
