With reference to the attached, I don't understand why Mr. Clark has written on the subject of the attach- ment of the brake. The points mentioned we well know and some people have objected to the Wolseley system as it was a some- what similar arrangement which was the cause of what one might call the Hansford accident in which a bus caused the loss of so many lives, the piece of the gear box being pulled out where the bracket shown in the drawing is attached. The stresses with this arrangement are rather heavy. The problem in the way we see it is not quite comparable to the Wolseley old arrangement, the whole brake being designed on the same lines as our earlier brake, and having no provision for self-centering as in the system we now use.
