Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} c. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} 783240 BY4/G.7.12.28. 40/50 HP. PROPELLER SHAFT - UNIVERSAL JOINTS. -------------------------------------------- I am handing you herewith an arrangement of the universal joint. As there is no Bijur supply to this part, and since it has been demonstrated to be possible to run 10,000 miles without replacement, provided the joint surfaces are sound, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} recommends,(and we are satisfied that his recommendation is essential,)that a rig should be made to test every universal joint of this type at 3,000 revs. per minute. There is also a similar joint of a smaller size which will be coming in for the 20 HP. shaft. There is no object of course in running the propeller shaft, it is the tightness of the jointing surfaces on the two joints, one at the front and one at the rear of the propeller shaft, which it is necessary to test.
