X. 995 Na{Mr Nadin}/S. 17-12-13. In reply to your memo Na{Mr Nadin}/S12/LG101213, we give below Mr. Haldenby's report on the point you raise. 1. I do not think the water pump requires lubricating at all except when first made in the Works. Any oil put in is immediately washed away by the hot water, and grease is bad to have in the cooling water. The water lubri- cation is sufficient. 2. We might say that the brakes should be examined and adjusted if necessary every 2000 miles. 3. I think it necessary for the proper and quiet running of Whittle belts that they should be soaked in oil but should not be run with oil clinging to the outside. They should be soaked and wiped as dry as possible. 4. I think we should give some figure so that one can use a feeler gauge. We might give a limit say .002" to .004". "Small as possible" does not seem de- finite enough to me. p. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} | ||
