- 2 - Messrs.Rolls Royce Ltd. 25.1.38. In order to show that this does not introduce distortion, the rings have been "proved" by rubbing in a dry sleeve on a dummy piston, and you will see from the marking that distortion does not occur. Care was taken, of course, in fitting to the piston, to open the ring only from the gap and to fit it in such a manner that no twisting force was created. We would be interested for you to try these rings under similar conditions to the earlier ones at a convenient opportunity and advise us whether the result is any improvement on the original. You will note that the increase in free gap has naturally increased the diametral load, but if this is considered excessive, the original load can be restored by slightly reducing the radial thickness. Yours faithfully, FOR THE LIGHT PRODUCTION CO.LTD. W. P. Brooks. GENERAL MANAGER. | ||
