EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. Exptl. No. REF: HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG11.6.25. To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c. to CJ. BJ. c. to RG.{Mr Rowledge} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} SY. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} S E C R E T. 'INDIA' BRAKES. We propose bringing an 'India' car to WW. next week. If convenient to you we will arrive there on Thursday morning the 18th. inst. The car will have the following features fitted to it. BRAKES. The brakes will be fitted up to your latest instructions. Attached herewith is a chart which shows what the proportion of braking will be and what actual levers are being fitted to the car. SPRINGS. The springs fitted to this car will be 20% stiffer than the present 20 HP. springs. It will be 10 to 14 days before we have any of the 25% stiffer springs to the latest dimensions. The 20% springs definitely overcome the bumping on the buffers. GEARBOX. We have carried out tests with gears in which the splines are out of centre from the centre of pressure on the gear teeth. We have taken two or three cases in which the gears have worked out and the only alteration we have made is to machine .25" off the ends of the splines. In every case so far that this has been tried, it has overcome the trouble. We have tried running with the gear slightly out of mesh. We do not find that there is any tendency for it to work into gear, it simply stops still. contd :- | ||
