Messrs. Rolls Royce Ltd., Experimental Dept. DERBY. "NOMAD" File Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.W.A.Rowbotham. With reference to the experimental Pistons EXS 928 which we are making for you, these are being despatched to you today but we regret to have to report that the raised portion of the crown is not in accordance with your drawing. The thickness of the crown at this point is .157" as compared with the rest of the crown which is of the correct thickness. We attach herewith a drawing showing the location of the thin portion which will show you clearly its extent. It is unfortunate that this error was not discovered in the Foundry equipment until this morning when the pistons were practically finished. We are correcting the error at once and rushing through a further set, but we are sending the finished pistons on to you because in spite of this fault it is felt they might be of some use to you in carrying out initial experiments, even if you did not care to submit them to a full test. | ||
