OY 1 x778. May 1st, 1929. TO: Mr. Bagnall Mr. Burton FROM: Mr. Olley oc - Mr. Beaver Mr. Caswell Mr. Fuller Mr. Bailey (England) Mr. Hives CHASSIS Special Self-locking Threads Major Hoke spoke to me about the Dardelet thread lock, now made by the Dardelet Threadlock Corporation of 120 Broadway, New York. This is a French invention which he has shown us and which is now under test at Pratt & Whitneys on aircraft engine and other work. It is also coming into use by rail-roads for locking rail-joint bolts etc. Briefly the form of the thread is such that the nut can be tightened or removed an indefinite number of times with ordinary freedom, but all loads or blows in the direction of the axis of the bolt lock it in place. He is anxious to make us some of these without charge. Can you suggest a place on the chassis or engine where such test would be satisfactory and not dangerous? I would suggest spring-clips and nuts, and the pedestals of the axle control shock absorber anchorage. OY. | ||
