Battery ignition.

Improved ventilation to distributor, window in head and Hole in base E.F.C. 4/T.15-1-26. Tungsten contact points fitted.
The battery ignition has not been quite satisfactory. It was necessary at 7,500 miles to replace the contact points as they had become pitted and were not making good contact.
These were taken off and sent to Derby. New standard contacts were fitted.
These are in a good condition after 2500 miles.
The distributor head has remained clean and free from oil. We reported that dust finds it's way in through the wire conduits to top of the coil.

Bonnet & fittings.

We have nothing to add to our previous report at 7500 miles; the conditions have not materially altered.

Engine guards & gearbox undershield.

We confirm our report at 7500 miles.

Radiator.

We have had no trouble with the radiator. It has remained in good condition, the bottom anchorage has remained O.K. and appears to be satisfactory. The anchorage of the radiator to the dashboard is the cause of the bonnet chattering endways and making depressions in dashboard and radiator. This is due to the flexibility of the top portion of the dashboard.

Radiator shutter & controls.

The controls have worked satisfactorly throughout the test. Slight rattles have developped in shutter and loss of movement in controls due to wear.
The bowden wire loop where attached to control on radiator has started to fray.

Dashboard & brackets.

The top corners of dashboard have chattered away by the continual movement of the scuttle. This has been caused by the flexibility of the scuttle and the sub-frame anchorage not being of sufficient surface, to prevent rolling of the body.

Steering column & box.

New "D" type steering with outside pendulum lever and larger diameter worm and nut (.700 lead) to E.S. 2065/6/7 and L.O.P. F.5395.
The flange at bottom of steering column failed during the last 200 miles. The bottom lugs of flange have cracked half way through. We presume that the bolts had stretched as the nuts were a quarter of a turn loose when examined. They were quite O.K. at 7500 miles. We have reported throughout the test of the continued whipping of the steering column when going over bad roads. We have also reported oil leaks from the flange, which showed that distortion of the flange was taking place.
The bracket on frame holding box has remained in good condition.
There has at no time been any of the bolts loose. There is now a fair amount of oil leaking out of pendulum lever shaft bearing.
