Like 14-G-4., due to the abnormal finisher thickness on the offside, the driver has only the elbow room of a body of 44.750 at the elbow line. That is why the car seems more cramped than that on 18-EX. although it is wider between the rails.

SUMMARY.

(1)....Hooper doors are thicker than Barker doors. On experimental cars Barker's standard doors are like Hooper's, but they say they propose adopting the doors made to our specifications.
(2)....No door need be more than 3.250 rail width (example 18-EX.)
(3)....No finishers need be more than .375 thick.
(4)....Actual width at elbow line for 20HP. bodies should be never less than 45.5 on closed bodies.
(5)....Actual width at elbow line on Phantom closed bodies should not be less than 46".
(6)....The signal window, with a box catch, which calls for such a thick finisher, as built by Hooper's, should not be fitted on any cars we are responsible for, and they should be asked to attempt to devise a smaller catch.
(7)....The Hobson window lifter, standard pattern, is heavy and clumsy. Other lighter and smaller types are as satisfactory, and save .500 on the door thickness.
(8)....Dropping rear quarter lights, with mechanical lifters, are not to be commended as they call for complication and increased weight, while the amount they can drop owing to the close proximity of the wheel arch is too small to make them useful.

As a matter of interest we measured the following cars in Hooper's showrooms for the actual width at elbow line of front seat -

Bentley 6 1/2 litre........... 45.000
Daimler 35HP............. 44.500
Lanchester............... 44.000
Maximum RR. Phantom........ 47.500
