SPRINGING - 58-GN (Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s Car.)

The car when received was fitted with special low rating front springs which were rather too strong for the car (these were fitted the last time the car came to W.); they were the only low rating springs available at the time they were fitted. Standard rear springs were fitted. The shock damper loads were :-

Front 94/110
Rear 100/100.

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} complained that the riding was too hard and gave the impression of too high tyre pressures, also the front of the car was too high. Tests which were made before any alterations, confirmed this criticism, the riding was hard with slight pitching at 40 - 45 m.p.h.

The following alterations were then made to the car :-

(1) Special low rating front springs fitted (5.5" initial camber)
(2) Special low rating rear springs fitted (10.25" initial camber).
(3) Front shock damper loads altered to 100/95 with drilled valves)
(4) Hartford shock absorbers were fitted all round. (These were fitted experimentally to ascertain whether friction damping in combination with hydraulic damping is advantageous).
