X.562 - REPORT ON 6 VOLT COIL. X.3761. X.1413. X.3647. X.3374. X.1520.

This has been run 10000 miles on 7 CA and it is in excellent condition. This car has done most of its running on both ignitions, the battery ignition has more advance than standard so that the coil has to fire at higher speeds it has done this quite satisfactorily and given no trouble.

I recommend the 6 volt coil but I do not consider we can use it with the present system of wiring, if we join up to the lighting battery we should have an insulated switch on the steering column and not an earthed one, as it is at present (Mr. Royce has instructed one to be made). The insulated switch will do away with the danger of the engine being switched on if a lighting connection is earthed.

We shall still have the C.A.V. and Lucas people objecting to us connecting our ignition to their lighting batteries, in the case of 7 CA we had two C.A.V. lighting dynamos burn their armatures out on this car, it is a thing we have not had happen before on an experimental car. I believe the cause of it was our change over battery switch and battery wiring system, the switch on the battery box used to get water in it and so short circuit the dynamo, we know that the switch was a poor one and it has since been re-designed, but I think the dynamo makers have just cause
