On the improved pivot for the Phantom with the larger diameter bushes, the lubricator is fixed in the axle with the hole through the pivot pin. Our experience is that this is not as reliable as the lubricator on the top pivot. When the lubricator is in the centre, there is a possibility of the oil leaking between the pin and the axle without going through the bearings. This is assisted by the fact that the key-way cut into the axle, for preventing the pivot pin turning, comes very close to the hole for the lubricator. The top lubricator is preferable because when lubricating the pivot, oil is forced in until it is seen oozing from the bottom bearing. For this to occur with the top lubricator, the oil must pass through both bearings. We attach a sketch showing how the lubricator can be fitted. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
