WRAITH FRAMES.

In connection with the above, we visited Messrs Rubery Owen Ltd., Darlaston, on the 19th inst; to investigate the reasons why an additional sum of £275.0.0d. was required for Dies, also the cause of the delay in producing the first Frames.

With reference to the £275.0.0d. we found that all this sum was not required for modifying the side member Dies as we had been given to understand, but was for the following jobs :-

£50.0.0d New Dies for FW.1225 Outer Bracket.
£50.0.0d " " " FW.1226 Inner Bracket.
£75.0.0d. " " " FW. 1237/8 Stiffeners.

{ £50.0.0d for modifying the Top Side Member Die as previously agreed.
{ £50.0.0d for modifying the Bottom side Member Dies on account of the thicker gauge material.

It would appear that the £100.0.0d required for altering the side member Dies is reasonable according to the work involved, but we have arranged with By's department to revert back to the original Stiffeners and Brake Intermediate Shaft Brackets in order to save the other £175.0.0d; it may be necessary, however, to make slight alterations to the Dies for the Stiffeners, but this will not be expensive.

Up to the moment Messrs Rubery Owen's have been paid £1,750.0.0d. for Tools etc., in connection with the Frame job, this amount was invoiced on December 22nd 1936, (invoice number 79722) and payment authorised by Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} It is surprising however, to find that even up to the present no details are available as to what tools etc., this sum was required for, therefore we are taking steps to obtain this information. In addition there is outstanding on a previous order a sum of £250.0.0d. sanctioned by Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} for the manufacture of Drill Jigs, but as these were not made we have arranged for this sum to be transferred to the new order.
