Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} From. G.W.H. 31. EX. - PHANTOM III. The Phantom Engine oil temperature suddenly rose during this morning's run to 125°c and a knock developed. Upon returning, we endeavoured to remove the lower half, but found that we could not do so. It evidently is fouling the large diameter Flywheel, we are proceeding to investigate. With not being able to give the exact trouble we have sent you the following telegram :- " PHANTOM ENGINE FAILED SUBJECT PISTON " " IS IT NECESSARY TO REMOVE FLYWHEEL " " TO DISMANTLE LOWER HALF " We hope to be in a position to know what the trouble is by morning. It sounds very much like a broken Piston. G.W.Hancock G.W.H. | ||
