-5- Incidentally, they considered 7" section tyres small for the Phantom III, declaring that 8" would be their choice for a corresponding size of car. With their smaller cars, running in and preliminary power testing are done on a chassis dynamometer, and squeaks and rattles are located on a chassis vibrator. They still have a final road test, and the larger cars are road tested throughout. On land in their possession adjoining the Works they have a test track which includes a hill of 1 in 4, they find this very useful, as otherwise they have to go a long way to find such a steep hill. Their foundry is good, and they make and have made for years, steel castings. Apart from cases where these are used for actual production pieces, they use them regularly for experimental pieces where the final pieces are to be drop forgings.
