Carburation performance in cold weather, comparing the SS type induction pipe to the Phantom's.

| contd :- -3- doubt that these can be made satisfactory. (5) Carburation. During the present cold weather, we have left cars out all night and started up from cold the next morning. This has confirmed that the SS.{S. Smith} type of induction pipe is considerably better than the Phantom each using water heating. In fact, we should say the SS.{S. Smith}, with reasonable petrol, can be considered satisfactory. If, however, a very low grade of petrol is used, there may be difficulty. On the road the acceleration and general performance is affected by water temperature. It is difficult to keep the water temperature constant, especially in cold weather. We are making a temporary arrangement using a Silver Ghost thermostat in order to prove out what advantages we gain from this. Generally, all the points which have been criticised on the SS.{S. Smith} are receiving attention and we are certain that the next car we send to France will be definitely better than the present car you are running. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
