Cause of overheating in a Smith Dynamo and the proposed solution of removing fuses from the circuit.

With reference to your memo EFC1/T24.8.20, I am satisfied that the over-heating was caused by running on open circuit, i.e. disconnected by fuse from battery. We must have no fuse in this circuit, and a very definite warning in the Instruction Book upon the point (in addition probably to some instruction in cover of distributing box.) Also, can see clearly same fault would occur with C.A.V. or Lucas, or any other type of constant current machine. R.R. wiring about to be made experimentally shews no fuses between dynamo brushes and battery. I am very hopeful of this being distinctly better than anything we have had or seen.
