contd :- -2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG11.6.25. ------------ We are carrying out other tests on gears, which do not come out at present, by reducing the splines at the other end to see whether we can by this means make the gear move in the other direction As you are aware we have been working on one dozen of the 4-speed 20 HP. boxes. We took the standard gears and re-broached them so that the angle of the splines was 60° included. New shafts were made to suit. Of the 12 boxes, 8 of them were satisfactory, of the other 4, on 3 of them the 1st. speed worked out, on the 2nd. speed worked out. We could not measure any difference in these gears to account for why they worked out and the others did not. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
