X. 8070 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to CJ. BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. to RG.{Mr Rowledge} Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E1/M24.2.26. PHANTOM INDUCTION PIPES. The Expl: Dept. have not yet completed all the tests asked for on induction pipes. They have yet to test the carb. built into the manifold with a throttle valve on each side of the spray chamber, as in sketch, coupled together. SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCH. made from an existing Phantom carburetter. The object of this test is to overcome the greatest fault we have on the induction system - e.g. the bias due to the first bend. This bend centrifugally separates out the liquid fuel from the stream of mixture. SEE ORIGINAL FOR SKETCH. We have seen a device for overcoming this fault which is said to be quite effective. It is made by forming a reflecting surface in the elbow in place of the usual bend so that the particles of liquid fuel strike on this face, and burst into spray, rebounding approx. in new direction required. No doubt there is some lose of volumetric efficiency at high speeds with such a pipe. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
