G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} Bastow.10/MH.{M. Huckerby}13.3.40. Below is a suggested list of test rigs. Some of these are already existing. Would you please comment on the need for the remainder and on the order in which they should be drawn. The 1936 note on rigs is attached for comparison. Heath Robinson Machine. Windscreen opening chain endurance test rig. Axle shaft bending endurance tests. (48º rig). Door lock endurance test. Screen wiper endurance test. It will probably be convenient to put the steering follower fatigue test on this machine. W. Bell has promised to look out the parts for this test. NOTE. Since steering box failures appear to be chiefly due to parking, a shock fatigue test rig such as is used at Vauxhall's hardly seems worth while at this stage. Shock Absorber Efficiency Test Rig. This is now in the Garage. At the Clan it could be driven by the bump rig motor through the Croft variable speed gear. Speeds 80 - 400 r.p.m. Shock Absorber Endurance Test Rig. This rig is now in W. Bell's shop. It is driven by a fixed speed motor through a gearbox. If floor space is scarce at the Clan it should be possible to modify this rig so that less space is required for it. | ||
