X 1362 E9/G1/8/19 . 1919 RECEIVED The question of illuminating the instrument board at night time on the 40/50 H.P. chassis has recently been discussed, and Mr. Royce approves of the proposal to use a press button switch approximately opposite to the steering wheel on the instrument board, operating a small lamp which shall illuminate the dials of the oil pressure and air pressure gauges. Mr. Royce considers that this lamp should be of one or two volts, and should be put in series by the press button switch with the tail lamp when in operation, and that the filament should only be allowed to give just sufficient light for the purpose required so as to avoid dazzling the sight of the driver. The whole idea of using the press button switch of course, is that the lamp shall be in operation for a few seconds only as required, so as to interfere with the driver's vision as little as possible. He can satisfy himself at any moment that the gauges are reading the required amounts. It is considered by Mr. Royce unnecessary to illuminate more than the two gauges named. Would Mr. Clark please take steps to find out if it is possible to buy a suitable press button switch and lamp fitting for the 40/50 H.P. chassis to carry out the purpose stated in the above.
