X4554 Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} c. EFC. c. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}/MS. RECEIVED JUL 26 1922 40/50 CHASSIS. RE "R" SERIES MATERIAL. BY6-P25.7.22. In BY10/H11221, when we were pushing hard for production, I gave you a list of certain parts which required settlement for "R" Series. At that time nothing was done with the matter, owing to the slump which occurred. At the present moment the O.O. are now becoming interested in "R" Series material again, and there are a certain number of sections which require consideration;- (1) (7050) Steering Column. Nine parts are held up as it was proposed to remove the ignition switch from the steering column to the instrument board. Is this proposal going on, or has it died a natural death? This involved also Steering column switch, section 7060. (2) (7080) Petrol Tank. The petrol tank was held up because it was proposed to fit a side Filler and a Petrol level indicator. Is it definitely proposed to use either, or both of these proposals, and are standardisation sheets available? (3) (7260) Main Switch. (4) (7270) Push Button Switch. (5) (7280) Actuating Box. These were all held up by the proposal to use parallel circuits in connection with them, instead of the series scheme which is at present in use, or vice versa. [handwritten: Series Stdd] (6) Wiring. This section was held up owing to the fact that it was proposed to use Mr Royce's new design of locked ignition switch and special switchbox. Are these likely to materialise for the new Series, or not? (7) (7290) Battery & Fittings. This matter is at present under discussion I notice between EFC. and R.{Sir Henry Royce} The proposal was to fit a rather larger battery with heavier cable connections and newbrackets and clips, with the object of maintaining the voltage at the motor terminals, more constant. contd. | ||
