if anything it produces a slightly smoother engine up to the main period than the standard slipper wheel. In addition it raises the critical speed at which the master period occurs by some 200 r.p.m.

The master period itself is still objectionable but it is not so acute as with the standard slipper wheels, creating the impression that the G.1. type damper would eliminate the chance of breaking a crankshaft.
