X1725 PN{Mr Northey}2/DN23.3.25. TO Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} FROM PN{Mr Northey} Acceleration - 4-wheel brakes. I am obliged for your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}6/LG19.3.25. The particulars given are very interesting, but they are not in quite the form which enables me to send them to a certain Member of Parliament, who has this matter in hand. The intention is to use certain figures, which we are able to supply, as an argument to demonstrate that speed alone cannot be taken as dangerous, but that control of the car and deceleration should be taken into account. Probably the most important speeds in this connection are those up to 30 m.p.h., and as the Blue Prints do not shew curves on squared paper, I have nothing definite to give him. Could you let me have some definite figures which we can hand to this gentleman, in addition to a copy of these curves ? (handwritten in margin: rates.) Also, although the figures doubtless have been obtained from time to time, I cannot find in this office, any statement as to the weights of deceleration with the 40/50 HP 2-wheel brakes. Could you please let me have these at the same time ? The fact that braking for the curves for the 4-wheel brakes, has been calculated, need not prevent you from giving me the figures which are definitely expected, from which the curves have been drawn.
