The English Steel Corporation advise that the tests they made with such Springs ex the sample batch they delivered to these Works some 3 weeks ago gave the following results:

Spring Part No. G.83270

Free Height. Specified. 8.15" Loaded Height. 5.087"

1st Test.
Free Height. 8.15" Screwed down to 6.15"
Deflection to 4.65" Working Stroke 1-1/2"
Total hours worked 1st test 66. hours. 66/min
Giving approximately 260,000 Deflections.

2nd Test.
Free Height. 8.15" Screwed down to 5.9" Deflection to 4.15"
Working Stroke. 1-3/4"
Total hours worked 2nd test 55. hours. 65.5/min
Approx No of Strokes 215,000.

Meantime we have placed an order with Salters for 25 sets as it is quite impossible to wait any longer until the tests the Experimental Shop are carrying out with sample springs supplied by (a) Firths (b) English Steel Corporation are completed.

You will recollect the sample Springs made by the English Steel Corporation are in Silico Manganese, in accordance with our standard practice.
