STEEL WHEELS - COVER DISCS. The object of this memo is to put on record the position of the ornamentation of steel wheels for CornicheBentley streamlineExperimental Streamline Bentley B.23.A.Ed precursor to R Type Continental, never produced, Ripple etc. Steel wheels will first be required on CornicheBentley streamlineExperimental Streamline Bentley B.23.A.Ed precursor to R Type Continental, never produced at this year's Show. Next March they will be on Ripple, and subsequently on 'B' series B.V, Wraith and P.III replacements. There are three possible forms of ornamentation - (1) A spring-in centre only. (2) A spring-in centre + an outer disc to hide the joint at the wheel rim. (3) The Cornercroft arrangement in which a complete cover disc is held on by a large centre hexagon nut. (1) costs 7/6 per wheel + about £25 for tools. (2) as (1) and in addition 8/- per wheel + £15 tools. (3) 15/6 per wheel + £221 tool cost. The last arrangement, although preferred for appearance, has not yet been tested and introduces a modified seal for the hub grease. For CornicheBentley streamlineExperimental Streamline Bentley B.23.A.Ed precursor to R Type Continental, never produced we must start with (1) or (2). We prefer (2) and are obtaining drawings of the parts so that they can be put on the LOP. We shall test Scheme (3) with a view to future incorporation on R.R. cars.
