BENTLEY 3½ LITRE STARTER MOTOR BIJUR DRIVE. (R.R.20/25 TYPE). SPECIFICATION OF TEST AND INSPECTION. (a) First the large test gear wheel into which the pinion engages should be locked against rotation. The motor should now be switched on from a 12 volt supply of ample capacity and it should be noted that after engagement, the motor armature spindle moves relative to the pinion, providing that the friction drive is working and allows a certain amount of slipping. On no account allow this condition to exist longer than is sufficient to prove the point. (b) Now unlock the large gear wheel and load up with the friction brake to such a load that the motor take ~150 amperes to turn it steadily. It should then be ascertained, after running in this condition for two minutes, that there is no sign of the friction drive heating, i.e. it is essential that during this test the friction drive should not have slipped appreciably. (c) Now check the pinion drive mechanism to ensure that it is quite free on the thread. (d) Make an inspection that the distance from the front face of the pinion cage to the body of the motor is still within the limits specified by the drawing. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. | ||
