X.4021. WATFORD TYPE IS.12 AERO MAGNETO FOR FALCON X. ENGINE.

SPECIFICATION OF INSPECTION AND TEST.

(1) The contact breaker cover and distributor ring shall be removed and the following details inspected :-

(a) The contact breaker lever for absence of frictional effect and for suitable spring tension.

(b) Satisfactory sliding fit of the movable cam ring. It should be noted that the ring is not slack internally.

(c) The primary connecting spring to the contact breaker for suitable pressure on the contact breaker terminal plate.

(d) The maximum primary gaps which should lie between .009" and .013" but at the same time should not differ on the two sides by more than .002".

(e) The lubricating pad on the contact breaker for containing a supply of oil and making contact with the cam lobes.

(f) The rotor sparking point brush for satisfactory freedom from sticking in its holder. Also the rotor for any sign of fouling the points.

(g) The rotor spindle for any end play in the bearings, this should not exceed .004".

(h) The brush on the contact breaker cover for freedom in its holder and suitable pressure on the contact breaker terminal plate.

(2) The available range of the advance lever should be ascertained and should not be less than 13°.

(3) Continuity of primary and secondary circuits shall be tested by applying an A.C. voltage of 205 between the high tension terminal and the frame, with the contact points held apart, when a small 4 volt lamp connected between the low tension spring terminal and the frame should be lighted.
