we feel, judging from the amount of correspondence which has taken place with reference to this car, that it is evidently the property of a very important customer and must be given every attention.

10. Magneto failure.

We are also aware of this weakness, a point which we have taken up with the makers, together with other failures. At the same time, we were not satisfied with the results, and the makers have undertaken to overcome these troubles and to rectify same retrospectively.
Owing to the fact of the brush "powdering" the makers have undertaken to replace the existing brushes with those made of different material, as they agree that the present material is not satisfactory for this purpose. As in the case with the dynamo we are not satisfied with the results obtained, but feel that it is the best we can obtain, and although we have proved that other types of our cars are more satisfactory, this is now having our serious attention.
The same remarks apply to the slow running of the magneto, which was complained of by the driver.

11. Gear noise emanating from the gear box at about 15 m.p.h.

Our present impressions are that this is the period from the axle, a weakness which we are aware of, but for which at present we have no definite cure. If at all possible, however, we will see that this is reduced even if we fix another axle.

We shall require the car here for a few days in order to carry out the piston job, when we hope to discuss the matter further with FH, and should be very glad if FH, with Lord Rocksavage, would take the opportunity of satisfying themselves that the car is satisfactory before leaving the works, as he suggests. The driver, however, does not think that Lord Rocksavage would be able to come to Derby for this purpose.
