Proposal to test a split boss lever secured by a biting-in bolt for a 40/50 HP progressive shock damper.

It is proposed to use for the above, a lever with a split boss secured by a single biting-in bolt. It is, however, uncertain how much friction exists between the lever and the shaft, and Mr. Royce would like you to get a lever of this type tested. The size of the shaft should be about 1" diameter. It is probable that there are in existence, many suitable levers which would serve you for the experiment. It is required to know at what torque the lever slips on the shaft. The load on the shock damper will be a reverse one, and the lever must not, of course, come loose. If the cylindrical grip with the biting-in bolt is not sufficiently powerful, it will probably be necessary to use a square. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} RECEIVED 14 APR 1919 | ||
