RE ACCIDENT TO EXPL. CAR 10-EX.

When proceeding through Erdington at 6.25 last night in the direction of Birmingham, in expl. car 10-EX, in passing a Birmingham Corporation Tramcar (No.698 Corporation Dockyard), which was just making off in the direction of Birmingham, the back wheels of the car skidded on the greasy wooden-set surface due to a slight application of the brake, slewed round, and hit the back of the tramcar, after which the car straightened up and came to rest nearly parallel to the tramcar on the R.H. side facing forward.

My assistant in this Dept., Mr. H.E.West, who occupied the L.H. rear seat was rather badly bruised by the impact and could not walk without assistance. We took him to the surgery of Dr. Sangster, 101 Gravelly Hill; he examined him and said he was alright except for bruises.

The car was not incapacitated except that a short circuit had occurred on the lighting system and the fuses had blown. I was able to back it away up a side street. Eventually we cleared the electrical fault and got the lights on again.

The damage sustained by the car was as follows :-
(1) Damage to the nearside rear door and wing.
(2) Slight damage to wheel.
(3) Very slight damage to front wing.

The damage sustained by the tramcar consisted of bruised metal work and partial breakage of the life guard.

Some particulars of the occurrence were taken by P.C.267D., who did not, however, witness the occurrence.

We have as witness a cyclist who was passing in the opposite direction at the time.:- Mr. T. Shepherd, 4 Western Road, Erdington.
