EVAPORATIVELY COOLED PHANTOM 1. ENGINE IN ARMOURED CAR.

The difficulty with the evaporatively cooled Phan. 1. engine, which has been fitted in an armoured car chassis, and is at present being tested, is due to the fact that the hot well pump will not pump water from the bottom of the condenser immediately steam has been generated. The pump, however, works quite satisfactorily before steam is generated.

In order to get some agreement as to the best action to take we requested E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Lr.{Mr Ellor} and Mr. Gibson for Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}, to go into the matter with us, when certain alterations were agreed upon. These alterations are being put in hand immediately.

It is also proposed to increase the piston clearances in order to allow for the higher working temperatures.

We will keep you informed as to the progress made.
