TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM AJS. C. to --BJ. HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}. PHANTOM No.5. LIGHTENED AND SIMPLIFIED CLUTCH. We send herewith drawing LeC. 2394. shewing the above, and we shall be glad if you will send us a print in the ordinary way. This drawing is in response to a recent request from R.{Sir Henry Royce} that we should still further lighten the clutch, and we have incorporated in this lightening the serrated universal which OY. considers so good, to which R.{Sir Henry Royce} has agreed. We have sent a print to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, and think that before instructing anything it would be advisable to await his comments. As we understand No.4. clutch has not yet been tested we have suggested that the flywheel of it can be lightened according to the cross hatching on LeC. 2394, so that the effect of it can be tried immediately without waiting for the completion of the remainder of the scheme shewn on this drawing.
