The first row of air holes in the diffuser
could be placed under the petrol level so as to give an early
'pick up' and a suitable capacity accelerating well incorporate

The mixture issuing from a diffuser type
jet is much better atomised than that issuing from the
present type plain jet and should further improve distribution.

If such a scheme possessed any advantages in
performance over the present carburetter it would be very simple
to apply to the present parts - needing probably only the new
air
diffuser unit, dash pot without ports, and choke.

We are not in any way neglecting the SS.{S. Smith}
carburetter development which naturally will take time to make
satisfactory because we feel that when a radical carb. change
is made the expanding type SS.{S. Smith} is an instrument which will
give us many advantages over other carburetters.

In the meantime we think we could quickly
find out the possibilities of the diffuser type jet in the
standard carburetter which if found to possess any advantages
could be easily used with the SS.{S. Smith} engine until such time as we
are ready with the SS.{S. Smith} expanding carburetter.
