SHEET 9. TEST NO. V11. FINAL TEST ON ADOPTED SCHEME OF BRAKES - 9-PK CAR. TROUBLES. MILEAGE. CAUSE OR REMEDY. Main cyl. extra old pipe broken. 2934 Steering bad for shocks and wobbles. Rapson super-comfort tyres fitted for first part of test - steering O.K. with Dunlops. Front spring broken. 6264 Induction pipe cracked. 6595 Water in petrol system. 6595 Purchased petrol contained water. Front spring broken. 6921 Sand in floatchamber. 8302 Cleaned out. Petrol tank loose. 9064 Suspension bolts loose and brkts.worn Petrol pipe broken. 9554 Loose petrol tank. Step iron broken. 9804 Battery and spare petrol tin carried on running board. Windscreen framework broken. Windscreen glass broken. Spare wheel carriers broken. Front wing stay broken. (wings splitting continually). 3 times. twice. 3 times. twice. MILEAGE OF TEST 11,077 - AVERAGE SPEED 36.5 M.P.H. Brakes required no attention beyond adjustments; and functioned perfectly. All troubles experienced on tests 1V. and V.{VIENNA} not existant on this car. Rear brakes required re-lining after test. Front O.K. Front brake toggle actuating shafts sloppy in their bearings. Silchrome valves fitted on this engine gave no trouble. Not touched during test and found only very slightly pitted afterwards. No trouble from exhaust system. No jaggers. Steering not affected by brake application. Steering nut slightly slack (not new at commencement) No side steering tubes springs failed. | ||
