re SEIZURES OF 3 1/2 LITRE
BIG ENDS.
--------------------

We understood some months ago in connection with the frequent running out of big ends and notably No. 5 big end, that the oil supply to No. 5 and possibly other big ends could be improved by adding certain additional oil grooves.

C. has asked me to enquire whether you now consider it necessary or advisable to make this modification whenever cars come in for say, an R.20 de-carbonisation or even perhaps an R.10.

At one time we thought that this big end trouble arose only amongst those hard drivers who might even be over-revving, but we do not now think that the trouble is confined to this type of driver. We had, yesterday, for example, a report from K.{Mr Kilner} advising us that No. 5 big end had gone on B.127-CW. - Mrs. Meyer, and that the car had had to be towed in from Keston in Kent and no doubt you will be aware of a number of similar cases.

We feel here not only that the breakdown is very serious and detrimental to the car but it is nearly always one that lands the Owner and cannot be disguised; in fact there is nothing for it but to be towed in.
