Dear Mr. R.{Sir Henry Royce},

Le Mans.

Many thanks for your letter of the 6th April. With reference to the samples of Benzole which you are sending us, I will do my best to get some estimation of their quality, but it is not possible to get a satisfactory test done on pure Benzole in the standard C.F.R. knock testing engine. What we will do, however, if you can send us about a gallon of each, is to mix it with some standard petrol and find out which has most effect on the petrol.

With kind regards,

Yours sincerely,
[Signature of F.R. Banks]

P.S. Actually, I do not expect to find any difference in anti-knock value but French benzole is apt to be rather "dirty" with a higher sulphur content than is usually tolerated in this country. F.B.
