EXTRACT OF ROLLS-ROYCE LETTER D/L4/B15-2-33 dated 15th February 1933 to Brokers.

" The cyclist was a travelling Joiner of no fixed address and the only alternative to settling this claim was to allow him to get in touch with the police which was regarded as undesirable, particularly in view of the fact that the driver was a foreigner and under French law you are guilty until you are proved innocent.
"e enclose the man's receipt for 500 francs and ask that the Caledonian re-imburse us.
In view of the circumstances we are wondering whether the Caledonian have a representative in France who could deal with these matters immediately, as if they have they would probably like to make use of him, as it is essential that there should be no contact with the police where it can be avoided. We must look to the Caledonian to support us in any reasonable action we may take in disposing of these matters diplomatically which otherwise might have serious consequences for the drivers. "

EXTRACT OF BROKERS REPLY TO THE ABOVE LETTER DATED 7th March, 1933.

" In regard to your query as to whether the Caledonian have a claims agent in France, we would inform you that in case of necessity it will be quite in order for an accident to be notified to Mr. W.W. Parsons of 116, Avenue Des Champs Elysees, Paris, who we feel sure will render proper service.
We believe Mr. Parsons is already well known to you as we are informed by the Caledonian that he was in your employ for some time".
