Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 1360 22nd December, 1938. E.D. Herrick, Esq., President, Lycoming Manufacturing Company, Williamsport, Pa.{Mr Paterson} U.S.A. Dear Mr. Herrick, I should like to thank you for the very interesting letter which you wrote to me in connection with exhaust valves and their behaviour on your products. The criticisms we have received with regard to counter-boring the valve guide is that the valve deteriorates on the exposed portion and consequently has to be replaced frequently. We accept that this may not be true with the modern steels at your disposal, but shall be glad to know whether you consider such a procedure would be a practical production proposition. Yours sincerely, | ||
