Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG. 750 Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}/DB.{Donald Bastow - Suspensions}2/ET.28.3.41. CROSS STEERING LAYOUT AND STEERING BOX MOUNTING M Y T H ---------- PL.448, the original of which is attached to Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/HH's copy, shows the cross steering layout and steering box mounting for Myth. The steering box shown is the smaller of the two on the provisional drawing 4-717 obtained from Burman & Sons Ltd. and a more detailed drawing will be obtained from the suppliers in due course. This drawing fixes the location of the lower end of the steering column so that Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/EAG. can now determine the position of the hole required in the dash to pass the column. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer} suggested certain modifications to the ball joint scheme of PL.434 and, in accordance with his suggestion, a modified type of water excluder is applied to the ball-joints on the idler lever shown in this scheme. In addition, the adjustable ball joint on the N.S. wheel should have a standard .562" lock nut in place of the sleeve type lock nut shown in PL.343. We shall thus be testing two types of water excluder and the sleeve, as against the standard lock nut in parallel on the first car. [Initialled JM{Mr Morley} in a circle] The front pan of PL.436 is modified in this scheme, by the provision of four holes for the insertion of four of the bolts holding the steering box and idler lever brackets.
