Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} BY REC Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hrg Fm/Gwd. RE. BENTLEY ENGINE BEARINGS We have now completed the Unit Test running and examination of the first two engines Nos. U-5-B6 and M-22-BB which were erected by the Experimental Dept. and fitted with AC7 material in all crankshaft bearings, with the exception of No.7 bearing which is white metal. The running done on the Unit Test Beds consisted of our Standard Schedule 2 test, this consists of the following running - De Laval for running in and cleaning purposes 4 hours. UNIT BED 30 minutes light run. 15 " 1000 r.p.m. - 1/4 load 30 " 1500 " - 1/2 " 30 " 1500 " - 3/4 " 30 " 2000 " - 1/2 " 45 " 2000 " - 3/4 " 45 " 2000 " - full load Power curve 10 minutes each speed - taking in all 2 1/2 hours. Gear Box run 30 minutes - 2000 r.p.m. full load. After the above running had taken place, we dismantled both engines for inspection. Both from visual examination and from check measurements made by the Experimental Dept, these bearings were in a very good state. We then re-erected the engines and put them back on the Test Beds for further intensive running, consisting of the following:- 30 minutes - 4000 r.p.m. Full load. 25 " - 4250 " " " 5 " - 4500 " " " | ||
