| To: All Superintendents. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 1/DK.2.9.39. It has been decided, in view of the present emergency and until such time as the Obscuration Scheme is completed, to work a two-shift system commencing on Monday, September 4th. The hours will be:- 1st Shift - 5.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m. 2nd.Shift - 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be no break for meals but arrangements have been made for the snack trolleys to go round. These shifts apply to all departments of the works independently of whether they are at present working day and night shifts. It also includes girls and apprentices. The hours of the staff are to remain as at present. It is important that the first and second shift should, as far as possible, be of equal dimensions. On Monday, September 4th, in order to get the job going, it is suggested that the present day shift should take the first shift and the present night shift should take the second shift but these can be adjusted at the earliest possible moment, so that people who live near the works can be on the first shift and people who live further away on the second shift. We wish to again emphasise the importance of the shifts being approximately equal at the very earliest possible moment. These shifts are to operate for seven days a week. This does not of course apply to those departments which are now operating on a single shift. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
