Progress report on the development and testing of an aero-based downdraught carburetter scheme.

| -2- Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Inv.1/AL.27.1.31. can with our aero carburetter scheme. Our aero carburetter scheme of variable position discharge orifice in relation to throttle edge is very good and we have applied it to these carburetters. We have reproduced the scheme as designed for the "Downdraught" carburetter. The first tests shews it to be quite satisfactory. We can get down to an idling speed as low as 150 R.P.M. which is considerably lower than possible on the Std. Phantom carburetter. It is not sensitive to engine temp. and idles as well with a cold engine as hot. Starting is quite easy on the test bed without an additional starting carburetter. We are starting now to adjust the metering by means of the diffusers. With the existing arrangement of air bleed holes in diffusers the metering is not far wrong at full load. We are fitting up a temporary scheme for drawing the carburetter air through the crankcase to see if this effectively silences the intake roar. Work is progressing satisfactorily on these carburetters and we soon hope to have a test on the road. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/A.C.Lovsey. | ||
