ORIGINAL To R.{Sir Henry Royce} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} (In U.S.A.). c. to EG. Mor. c. to B. Ds. c. to Ry. 18.11.30. - Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 2. x7941d. 25-EX. IN U.S.A. This car has now completed about 1900 miles. Today at Springfield we have had a full discussion the officials present were :- Mr. Beaver. } Vice Presidents. " Hosac. } " Inskip. New York Sales. " Hiltz. Boston " " Kerr. Hartford " " Beck Body Designer. " Ross. Springfield. " Barton. Mr. Hives. It was agreed by all that the general appearance of the car was very pleasing. The points raised as regards coachwork were :- (1) Bonnet shutters. They would prefer to have no shutters. They have been making cars for the last two or three years without shutters, and have had no complaints of overheating. I told them that the cars would be delivered with four shutters in each bonnet. They claim that their cars this summer kept cooler than imported Phantom 11. I promised to look into the question of whether their radiator was more efficient. (2) They would like to be rid of all the rivet heads on the bonnet. (3) They would like a scheme to prevent the bonnet scraping the scuttle of the body. One of the advantages they hope to get from the bonnet extended over the dash was to get rid of the broken line due to a plated moulding, when this moulding is painted as on 25-EX. the bonnet scrapes all the paint off. It was suggested to fix a piece of rubber on the bonnet. We then took two Springfield made Phantom 1 cars and 25-EX. and tried them together over about 40 miles. As regards silence, absence of fuss and vibration, silence of gears, action of brakes, lightness of steering, 25-EX. was very much better than either of the Springfield cars. The only points criticised at all on 25-EX. were:- | ||
