SEPTEMBER 1931. 20/25 HP. CAMSHAFTS. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} confirms that R.{Sir Henry Royce} expects BY's Department to produce some new forms for the 20/25 HP. cams. In order to keep within the existing diameters of bearing housings we are at liberty to reduce the base diameter of the cam from 1.050 to something near .900 as circumstances may dictate. The new forms are to be combined with the modified angle between inlet and exhaust viz. 112°. The heavy acceleration can be put up as we find we require it to meet these conditions. PHANTOM II. CAMSHAFTS. Here also a new camshaft is required to the following specification:- Two new forms required to the present timing for standard Phantom II, but the cam forms to give a higher lift similar to some forms we have already developed, giving E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} thinks from memory .47 lift. The timing is to be the same as at present, but the angle between the cams - inlet and exhaust - is to be 112° instead of 116°. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} remarked, however, that he would hold over a definite decision on the actual lift to be attained until he had had an opportunity of discussing the matter with R.{Sir Henry Royce}, but he would be able to tell us on Monday what the lift had to be. CONTINENTAL PHANTOM II. Improvements to be included :- a/- Higher compression. b/- Higher lift valves. | ||
