Kingsbury,

1st February, 1937.

I instructed Scholes to leave for Chateauroux on Sunday morning and told him to catch the connection at Paris so that he could go straight through.

Upon hearing of the accident to 35 EX late Saturday night, I went down to Victoria yesterday morning to intercept him and prevent him going over. I was there from 8 o'clock to 11.15 a.m. but no Scholes turned up for any of the Boat Trains. I was, therefore, unable to prevent him crossing. He evidently went either by the afternoon or night boat as the envelope which I received this morning with his time sheets is dated 12.45 a.m., 1st February. I have done my best for him but I cannot have these worries. I shall send him back and let you deal with him.

I am enclosing his time and expense sheets which I do not agree with, may be he can explain them but I don't know where he gets six lunches and six dinners in five days counting Sunday as I paid for lunches for four persons on the Tuesday.
