C.J. 7/6/11 7th June 1911 R15/D7611 There has been considerable trouble with a mysterious knock principally in one of the engines of the 1300 series, which, after numerous experiments, Mr Hallam found to be due to between two and three thousandths of slack in the little end brasses. Mr Platford experimented on this point a long time ago and found no knock was discernible until 5/1000ths. of slack existed, but possibly his conditions of testing were rather different to the slow speed no load running in which this latest knock appears. I had been for some time past endeavouring to get the little end with a larger quantity of oil in the centre and I attach to this note sketch of a scheme which I have reason to believe will maintain a high pressure [Handwritten in left margin]: X74 D | ||
