contd :- -2- Tests we have been carrying out during the past year rather confirm OY's remarks that hard linings with tremendous wearing qualities give poor life in the long run due to scored drums and incidentally are bad for brake squeaks. We find that Ferobestos, a moulded lining, largely overcomes the squeaking we get with a woven lining, our standard material. It wears, rather more rapidly, however. This, coupled with the fact that the direct braking on the S.S. is greater than we have ever had on a 40/50 previously, caused GWL. on the last 10,000 miles to find that his pedal travel increased more rapidly than on other tests. The direct braking on the S.S. is 28.5 units, V.{VIENNA} series was 25 and 14-EX 24 units. An alternative we have tried to lower the proportion of direct braking without altering the total distribution appreciably. S.S. Standardised : [Diagram showing a cam mechanism labelled '45° CAMS' with two lever arms of length '1.375'] Alternative to reduce effect of wear : [Diagram showing a cam mechanism labelled '40° CAMS' with two lever arms of lengths '1.725' and '1.375'] There is no question of the front brakes requiring adjustment before the rear brakes as their lining area is contd :- | ||
